The Kalamazoo River is normally rated class 1, there is no white water. This makes for a canoe outing anyone can enjoy, novice or expert. It allows for a leisurely ride on a mild current that courses approximately 14 miles through the Allegan State Forest and hundreds of acres of wildlife refuge supporting a variety of wildlife from many types of waterfowl, swans, herons, turtles, eagles, kingfishers, and other varieties unique to the Kalamazoo watershed, to foxes and many deer. The Kalamazoo is also famous for its large fish population, especially the seasonal runs of trout and salmon. Photographic opportunities abound to the stealthy canoeist.
